Replacing a dark galley kitchen, incorporation of this skylight creates a light-filled space, while leaving room along the walls for cabinets and appliances. The new kitchen is tucked into a corner of this house of many gables. Our solution of a very low slope roof maintains window configurations on upper floors, and the detailing: deep overhangs, box bays, and wide trim, blends with the existing architecture.
Renovation of the existing basement as well as a full basement under the addition, expand lowest level play and recreation space and is connected by a new and much-needed interior stair from the first floor. The stone patio off the kitchen and family room provide exterior living space.
