Support us for the 2013 CANstruction Competition this November

pc2De Biasse & Seminara Architects, LLC will be participating in the 2013 CANstruction Competition this November to benefit the Community Food Bank of NJ.

The competition brings together architects, engineers, designers, contractors, students, and local community members to build imaginative sculptures completely out of canned food.

All the canned food that is raised for the competition will later be donated to local community food banks.

Coastal NJ Architecture… Shore CAN Rebuild

The theme of the competition this year is Coastal NJ Architecture… Shore CAN Rebuild.

We’re calling our submission Building Smart, a playful jab at the latest Building Strong campaign in New Jersey. As far as we know, there are no coastal architecture techniques that are stronger than Mother Nature — it’s building smarter that will help a building withstand extreme conditions.

To illustrate our point, we’re constructing a beachfront home on pilings next to a separate set of pilings where another house has been swept away. The house that’s still standing was built smart, on higher pilings, to protect it from the punishing surges.

The competition will be held at the Livingston Mall in Livingston, New Jersey and will be on display for a week following the Awards Gala on Nov. 15th. We’ll be building our CANsculpture the day before the gala on Nov. 14th.

Donations will be used to purchase cans to construct our CANsculpture and will be donated to the Community Food Bank of NJ at the end of the competition.

These creative and often complex CANsculptures can cost up to $10,000 to construct! So your help would be greatly appreciated by us and the men, women and children seeking food assistance throughout New Jersey.
